Imou T33VL Battery-Powered Camera: Bringing AOV Always-On Video to the Mass-Market Era
2026.11.06

In the market for battery-powered smart cameras, users have long faced a practical trade-off. To extend battery life, most devices stay in sleep mode and only wake briefly to record upon PIR trigger. This gives rise to the pain point of missing critical footage. To break this compromise, devices need Always-On Video (AOV) capability, which traditionally comes with high power consumption costs.

Recently, Imou has launched a battery-powered camera built around the Ingenic T33VL chip. The core design of this product leverages underlying chip-level power-optimization to bring AOV always-on recording to mainstream battery-operated surveillance devices.

Redefined User Experience with Imou T33VL

As a well-known brand in the security industry, Imou’s new product directly addresses three major pain points of battery-powered cameras:

Extended Battery Life with Milliwatt-Level Power Consumption Battery endurance is critical for battery-powered cameras. Enabled by the underlying chip, the device achieves ultra-low power draw in AOV mode. It can maintain continuous recording while staying in low-power standby. This greatly reduces charging frequency and makes round-the-clock continuous recording feasible for battery-powered hardware.

Fast Boot-up and Continuous Video Streaming Conventional low-power cameras take a relatively long time to wake up via PIR, often missing the start of events. The Imou T33VL features fast startup and continuous streaming. Its Time-To-First-Frame (TTFF) is kept within 130 ms, delivering continuous video streams without frame drops. In real-world use, the transition from motion detection to live view is nearly instantaneous with seamless recording, avoiding frame stutters during key moments.

Scene-Adaptable Imaging Quality Sharp imagery is essential for security use, both in daylight and low-light night scenarios. The device supports imaging up to 5-megapixel resolution with advanced image processing. In low-light conditions, it delivers high-clarity visuals with accurate color reproduction and effective noise reduction. Optimized video encoding mitigates motion blur for dynamic scenes, sharpening moving objects and backgrounds. It meets detail-capture requirements for home monitoring and small-to-medium business applications.

Chip-Level Foundation: Ingenic T33VL Technical Solution

The above-mentioned product capabilities are rooted in the hardware architecture of the Ingenic T33 chip family. Positioned as an entry-level H.265 + AI SoC, the T33VL balances overall performance with targeted technical strengths:

Architecture & Computing Performance: Powered by the XBurst1 1.0 GHz core, the chip integrates an NPU delivering 0.5 TOPS @ INT8. Supporting mixed quantization, the NPU achieves over 80 % of the performance of 1-TOPS-class chips. It reliably runs fundamental intelligent video algorithms such as human-shape detection and vehicle detection.

Power Consumption Control: Under 4MP + D1 @15fps with H.265 encoding, the T33 consumes 285 mW — a 25 % reduction compared to the previous-generation T32 solution. Thermal performance and heat dissipation are further refined for stable long-term operation. For a single-sensor 2-MP setup running at 1 fps, total board power is merely 26 mW. Even the dual-sensor variant draws only 44 mW under identical conditions.

Seamless Compatibility: For OEM manufacturers, the T33 offers pin-to-pin hardware compatibility and SDK compatibility with the T32. On-chip SDK covers Normal, Battery and AOV (Always-On Video) operating modes. This drastically cuts development cycles and enables smooth migration from legacy designs to AOV-enabled battery-powered products. This is a key enabler for Imou to bring a highly-mature product to market rapidly.

Conclusion

The release of Imou T33VL marks a real-world implementation of Ingenic’s “AOV for All” vision. It proves battery-powered cameras no longer need to choose between long battery life and non-stop recording. Through chip-level power management and well-matched AI computing resources, the Ingenic T33 family empowers security OEMs, bringing always-on video from premium flagship configurations to broader consumer market
